Bugaboo

The brainchild of Tava O’Halloran and Daniel Wright, FunFair aims to surpass their popular London clubs in a distinctly Brighton vein.

Tava and Daniel’s London establishments – ‘The Bathhouse-Bishopsgate’ and ‘The Baby Bathhouse’ – boasted accolades such as Time Out’s ‘Club of the Year’, Vogue.com’s ‘Hottest Venue’ and were included in the Evening Standard’s ‘50 Top Things to do in London’ - to name just a few. Guest-lists name-checked the likes of Prince Harry, Paloma Faith, Vivienne Westwood, Alexa Chung, Kiera Knightley and Henry Holland.

Influenced by their move to Brighton, FunFair seeks to recreate the spectacular opulence and vintage mystique of the Brighton Pier and rambling fun fairs of old. Whenever the fair rolled into town you were guaranteed a magical moment that would be held in the memory forever, and with the opening of FunFair club in King's road Brighton this transient experience from yesteryear becomes a spectacular mainstay of the city's (in)famous nightlife.

“The sun warming your back, the smell of popcorn in the air, the cries of laughter as sweethearts grip hands and spin round and around in the waltzer, unable to focus on the kaleidoscopic ribbons of light whizzing past as they get lost in the experience of: The FunFair”

Just after Christmas, Funfair Club in Brighton started a new night on Thursdays: Bugaboo. Orientated around the 90s, the female side of R&B and hip hop, Bugaboo is a dancing night. A range of fab DJs play everything from Maria Carey to Lauren Hill and Destinys Child, drinks aren't too overpriced and you can't spend a night there without spending the majority of it giggling!

I headed there on Thursday with some friends from my Uni course and had an amazing, very drunken night! Unfortunately the highlight of the club - a ballpit hidden in a secret cave - was closed for the evening but somehow we managed to have fun regardless!! (Previous nights in the ballpit can be seen below!!).

If you're in Brighton the club is well worth checking out - small and intimate without being empty, incredible music, lovely staff and toilets that aren't disgusting. I mean, what more could anyone ever want from a club?
